Amira Oron, Boyar ’84, Israel’s first female Ambassador to Egypt.

Amira Oron, a 1984 graduate of Mae Boyar High School, has recently been approved by the Israeli cabinet to officially become Israel’s first female Ambassador to Egypt.

A Middle East expert, Ambassador Oron is fluent in Arabic and headed the Foreign Ministry’s Middle East Economic Relations Department in recent years.  She was Israel’s ambassador to Turkey from 2014-2016, though Turkey had lowered the status of that position to charge d’affaires.  She was the first woman to head an embassy in Ankara.

Ambassador Oron is fully aware of all the Israeli embassy’s affairs and manner of work in Cairo. In addition to her studies related to Islamic and Middle Eastern affairs, she is also the former deputy director of the media department in the Arab world at the Israeli Embassy in Egypt.

Ambassador Oron is one of a long list of Boyar High School graduates who have and are serving in the Israel Foreign Service with distinction.
