A National organization providing outstanding educational opportunities for children and youth from disadvantaged communities

The Society for Advancement of Education, Jerusalem (SAE) is a non-profit organization established in 1962, based on the vision of David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s founder and first prime minister.

SAE’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty by equipping youth, from Israel’s geographic and socio-economic peripheries, with quality high-school education, achieve excellent matriculation certificate and all other tools necessary to achieve full participation in Israeli society.

Many young Israelis from low-income communities, have the academic aptitude to raise themselves out of poverty if given the opportunity. SAE’s network of high schools and residential education facilities offers these youths exactly that. With access to excellent education and a highly supportive environment, children are able to reach their full potential.

SAE owns and operates, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, eight secondary schools and seven residential campuses with approximately 3,000 students in Jerusalem, Kfar Saba, Netanya and Givat Haviva. Five of the secondary school are co-ed, one, Hachmey Lev Yeshiva High School, is boys only, and two schools are for girls — Ulpenat Tayla (formerly Midrash Amalai) and Shoshanim, an arts and science school for Haredi girls. A third all girls school, INBAR, a pluralistic leadership school, will open in September 2019.  Schools and Residence

Under an agreement with Israel’s Ministry of Education, SAE also operates several innovative national educational programs across Israel such as Na’ale for overseas high school students (in partnership with JAFI). These programs impact over 13,000 youth every day, nearly most of whom are economically disadvantaged.  National Education Programs

At a time when less than half of Israelis graduate high school with a matriculation diploma, 90% of students in SAE schools graduate with such diploma opening the doors for most prestigious Universities in Israel and overseas.  SAE students serve upon graduation in meaningful roles in the IDF, attend top quality universities and ultimately become upwardly mobile. Over the years, 30,000 alumni of SAE’s Educational Institutions have significantly contributed to Israeli society in fields from sciences, politics, and business to community leadership.
