We hope that this letter finds you safe and healthy in these difficult times and that you will be able to enjoy a happy and meaningful Passover with family and friends, either together or via social media.
As you may know, schools in Israel have been closed for the past month to contain the spread of COVID-19. The Society for Advancement of Education (SAE), in response, has launched sophisticated remote learning classes for students in all nine of its secondary schools. Learn more.
SAE’s mission is to provide a first-rate high school education to gifted students from disadvantaged communities throughout Israel. As a result, more than 800 students, many from very poor families, live during the school year in SAE residences where they receive lodging, board and the academic and social support from a dedicated and caring staff.
Government-imposed virus-mitaging restrictions have caused all SAE students to return home and, at the same time, many Israelis have lost their jobs. 25% are now unemployed. This situation has, for many students, exacerbated their families’ distress to the point where some lack the resources for even food and other basic necessities.
SAE is stepping in to provide vital emergency financial assistance to its students and their families – assistance that is only made possible by friends like you who support SAE’s Student Assistance Fund.
Many questions still remain unanswered. However, we do know that we will be dealing with this crisis for months to come. In order to sustain the vital support our students and their families require, we need your help. Your gift will make a real difference.
With thanks for your generosity and wishes for safe and healthy days ahead.
May you find great joy and meaning in this Passover season.
